About Marchmont...

Located near Greenlaw in the Scottish Borders, Marchmont House underwent an award-winning restoration under the ownership of the late Hugo Burge, who was also a Patron of Borders Art Fair. His aim was to establish Marchmont as a home to the highest quality makers and creators. The incredible art collection, which combines fine art with contemporary UK sculpture and, arts and craft furniture with antiques, is open to the public for tours and inspirational events throughout the year.

As part of the journey to establish Marchmont as an integral, and influential part of the national visual arts and creative landscape, a series of outbuildings surrounding a courtyard near the house, restored by Sir Robert Lorimer in the early 20
th century, have been converted to form a selection of workshops and studios providing high quality, affordable spaces for artists and craft makers.  All of the studios have shared access to a common room, kitchen, and meeting space, where the community of makers can come together, share ideas, and socialise.  Permanent tenants currently include stone carvers Michelle de Bruin and Josephine Crossland, chairmakers Sam Cooper and Richard Platt, visual artist Gary Anderson, sculptor Richard Goldsworthy, the Marchmont Silversmithing Workshop, and Redbraes Pottery.
