ABOUT GEORGIE…

Georgie Fay runs participatory workshops and activities responding to her practice with various museums, galleries, schools and community groups as a freelance artist facilitator. Participation, sharing and socially engaged practice is at the heart of her work and has led her to explore particular themes.

Her practice is both installation and print based, it currently explores themes like ‘Loss of Imagination’, 'Finding Home', 'Mapping our World' and 'Nature versus Man-made'. All these themes are derived from her own engagement with the world; from the city pavement to the flight pattern of migrating birds; from everyday journeys we take for granted to global travelling and experiencing unfamiliar landscapes. The art and photographs created in her participatory workshops, and the ideas formed and reflected on as a group are a form of inspiration for the print-based work she then produces in the studio.

Georgie has recently finished a year-long residency in Islington, London as part of a participatory heritage project exploring the local history and working with the local community. Her most recent body of work looks at how humankind has interacted and changed the landscape. She specifically analyses our use of the elements throughout time from Neolithic farming to power stations that dot our horizons today.

Georgie will be leading the development of an exciting new print studio opening in the Scottish Borders at Marchmont House, so this will also be a chance to chat with Georgie about how you can get involved, take classes (from beginners to experts), have your own studio space or have the opportunity to do a printmaking art residency.
